Well done everybody. We had a great ride today and have been treated to a great venue. Tomorrow is the last time we cycle together this week (unless we see you in the Argus’ start chutes). And we have something special in store.
Dual start times
We will have 2 groups depart from Riebeeck West. 6am & 8am. We suggest the slower guys start at 6am and the faster guys start at 8am. No pressure – you can decide when you want to start. It would be great if we all can arrive at the finish line at more or less the same time.
Finish at Joostenberg
We finish after 78kms at Klein Joostenberg bistro, deli, organic wine and craft brewery. Have a look at http://joostenberg.co.za/. We’ll enjoy something to eat and drink before we all depart after what has been a glorious week – we couldn’t have asked for better participants, scenery, routes or weather.
Speaking of, we’ll end on a high note – tomorrow being the hottest day so far. The mercury will be rising to 36 degrees. Hydrate well and don’t skimp on the sunscreen.
We start in Riebeeck West and quickly reach its sister, Riebeeck Kasteel, where we turn right at Kloovenburg onto the R46. We then immediately get onto our highest point for the day as we ascend up the 180 degree Bothmaskloof pass. Afterwards a quick descend follows as we cycle in the direction of Malmesbury, along the Riebeecks river till the 20km mark.
We then turn left at the T-junction onto the R45 and follow the 30kms towards the Wellington intersection where we find the only water point for the day, on the left hand side at the intersection by the Florida farm stall (at the 50km mark).
We then turn right from the R45 onto the R44 direction Stellenbosch and stay on this road until we cross underneath the N1 and reach the R101 (Old Paarl Rd), at the 71km mark, where we turn right on the R101. This is the final stretch of the tour – 7.5kms later we turn right into the finishing venue at Klein Joostenberg.
Stage turn by turn
Leave from Riebeeck Valley hotel on the R311 towards Malmesbury
