Kudos to everyone for breaking the back of this years’ Tour. Today was by far the longest day. Tomorrow things get easier – just 131kms and 1100m of climbing. But it will be another scorcher – 35 degrees or more.
Start at 6am
We leave from the Cape Dutch Quarters in Tulbagh:
We start from Tulbagh with a neutral zone for the first 12kms, through the Nuwekloof pass, until we turn right from the R46 onto the R44 at Gouda.
From the end of the neutral zone we stay on the R44 and go through Gouda, Saron & Portervile. Watch out for some rough road surface and a few potholes as we go through Gouda. The stretch to Porterville will be fast, with little in terms of hills.
Water point 1 – Our first water point will be at 48kms. As we exit Porterville, at the end of the lane of trees. At that water point we turn left to stay on the R44 towards Piketberg.
Water point 2 – There will be rolling hills for the next 34kms all the way from Portervile to Piketberg. Our 2nd water point is at 72kms, situated as we reach the N7. Turn left onto the N7 en route to Moorreesburg.
Water point 3 – Just after Moorreesburg we turn left onto the R311, where you will find the 3rd water point under the trees just after the turn-off. This will be at 105kms. Stay on the R311 all the way to Riebeeck West. Expect more rollers.
We finish at the Riebeeck Valley Hotel in Riebeeck West. As you come into town, take one of the first roads, Lang street, to the right and up the hill. There are road signs indicating the Riebeeck Valley Hotel.
